Chris Osman interview in Liverpool Daily Post

Chris Osman is a solicitor at Liverpool and Southport law, firm Brown Turner Ross. As a newly qualified solicitor, Chris has already become a dab hand at working under pressure, working in a busy law firm means lots of work and that no two days are the same.

"The day to day aspects of my job involve seeing clients, listening to their problems and trying to find a way to help them. I also attend hearings at court, my role requires a lot of paper work, and this can be anything from preparation of statements to writing claim forms."

Chris wanted to be a football agent when he first left school "as they get lots of cash for relatively little work", but he soon realised his skills lay elsewhere.

"My father is a Family and Civil Law Barrister and my mum co-owns her own Solicitors Practice in Formby, so this was really a natural move for me to make. I first did a Business degree at Liverpool University and then went to work for the Halifax for a year but then converted to do law and then did my LPC at BPP in Manchester."

Life in a law firm is not the easiest of professions to pursue, the long hours, keeping on top of ever changing legislation and providing an excellent service to clients is a few of the standard job requirements, so why is it all worth it?

"I love my job; I enjoy the interaction with people. Everyday I meet new people, it keeps it interesting and I am good at relating to people, which is really useful in this job. What I love the most is getting into court and trying to get the best result that I can for my client, there is nothing more satisfying than helping out a client who really needs your expertise and seeing their happiness and knowing that you were a big part of helping them achieve that happiness."

Chris has worked since he first left school; a part time job at Focus DIY saw him through his college and university days. Upon graduating Chris was at Halifax, first as a cashier, then as a banking adviser and finally as Assistant to the Area Sales Manager for Staffordshire and Shropshire. His great work ethic and varied experience has equipped Chris for the challenging environment he now works in.

"The greatest challenge has been managing the work load. It takes a lot of time to get into a pattern of managing your time in such a busy and successful practice as Brown Turner Ross. I have worked long and hard to get here and will continue to work hard to succeed. There is still plenty for me to learn and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead."

Finally a word of advice for anyone looking at Law as a career option:

"My advice to anyone thinking of going into law is first of all you need to get very good at being organised, and fast, as you will see the benefits of that when you get into practice. If you can organise your time effectively you will be far better off, otherwise you could struggle."
